Aya Van Renterghem

Aya Van Renterghem is a historical linguist and medieval manuscript scholar, who is currently working on a two-year postdoctoral research project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, at Leiden University. This project focuses on alphabet collections and the transfer of linguistic knowledge in the early Middle Ages. Aya worked as a Teaching Fellow and PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham from 2013-17, where she investigated the origin and development of runic writing in medieval Western manuscripts. During this time, she was also a runological consultant for the Viking: Life and Legend exhibition at the British Museum, co-created a Viking Tourist Trail for the Isle of Man, and organised various workshops on runes and medieval manuscripts for university students and the wider public.
