Margreet Brandsma completed a Master in medieval history in 2010. She is interested in the position of powerful women in the late medieval period, especially the countesses and princely widows of Holland. Currently, she works on a thesis on Margaret of Burgundy (1374-1441).
Before becoming a historian, she obtained a PhD in biology, in 1996. From 1997 until 2013 she worked as a policy officer at the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) in The Hague, and as a program manager of the national biobanking research infrastructure BBMRI-NL at Leiden University Medical Hospital.
